Good Day Deed Suggestions

I've been asked if I could suggest some possible Good Day Deed ideas.  Here are a few from me as well as others...

Suggested from Maureen Churchill's original, inspiring blog, "40 Good Days:"

  • Load quarters in a gumball machine or vending machine (so others may be surprised to receive free or cheap treats!)
  • Leave pennies by the fountain at the mall (and watch children make wishes)
  • Write a letter of thanks to a soldier (Operation Gratitude)
  • Bake cookies to give away (at work or where ever)
  • Leave coupons next to the corresponding items at the grocery store.
  • Donate old clothes or toys to a charity or organization of your choice.
  • Volunteer at whatever charity speaks to you or draws you.
  • Hold the door open for people somewhere and wish them a good day.
  • Set up a lemonade stand and donate profits to charity. (See Alex's Lemonade Stand)
  • Have your child draw a picture of someone far away and send it to them.
  • Make a bird feeder.

Other suggestions

  • Have a garage sale and donate a percentage of profits to a charity.
  • Donate toiletries, clothing, or blankets to a homeless shelter or an organization that supports the homeless.
  • Assist someone in a store who is using an electric scooter or who is otherwise disabled.
  • When someone is wearing an unusual outfit or costume, compliment it and ask them about it.  Chances are they wore it to be noticed or make a statement, and asking with make them happy.
  • Shovel the snow from a neighbor's driveway or walk.
  • Pick someone from your Facebook friend list and write them a long message, thanking them and reminding them why they're on your list in the first place.
  • Buy a friend or coworker lunch for either a special occasion or just for the heck of it.
  • Compliment a child on their outfit or costume and treat them like the princess or hero they are.
  • Open an email account for your young child or grandchild.  Send them email and photos as frequently as possible.  When they are 18 (or whatever age), tell then about the email.  They'll have an instant journal and keep-sake of their life.
  • Return stray shopping carts to the corral or store.  This will save someone some effort and help prevent car damage.
  • Make a donation to someone's Go Fund Me page.  Even $10 could make a difference!
